WELCOME BACK FROM THE HEAD COACH
I'd like to welcome everyone back from the summer break.
I know that I'm excited to get back at it and I know the swimmers are too. We had a great Mini-Camp and most of the participants have shown interest in becoming part of the team. A big thank you to Fergus Hobson for his help!
Our three older boys from last season are now off to university and from all reports are having a great time learning ins and outs of higher education- studying very hard, not going to parties and making sure their parents have nothing to worry about. And some swimming too.
We'll be back in the water soon and we all know what that means. Our coaching staff is evolving as always. Athena Leblanc Naziel and Kye Mcinnis are back with us and we have a few newcomers on board.
Welcome to our new and improved Otters web site!!
It's still a work in progress and if you have any suggestions, please bring them forward.
Swim through the site, from front to back, in order to see scheduling, up and coming events, Scheduling and much more.
If you are interested in volunteering or becoming more involved as part of our Otters board, you will find all of the surfing necessities on this site.
OFFICIALS CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
This 2016 -2017 swim season sees many continuing changes within our governing body of Swim British Columbia. In the past two years Swim BC has changed many time standards for swimmers in various age groups and the number of qualifying events necessary to attend provincial championships. This swim season there is a new requirement to hosting a sanctioned swim meet applied to all clubs. Swim B.C.'s new requirements are that all volunteers on deck acting in Official positions during a sanctioned swim meet must be registered and have completed a small online read and online quiz to certify themselves. We can no longer just find someone to volunteer and last minute place them into a position.
A parent can choose the Officials position of choice and then they can independently go online to complete it or as a group read session one evening. Examples of Officials position are Timers, stroke and turn, marshalling, chief timer, Starter, meet manager, etc. These new regulations within our governing body can make it more difficult for a small community swim club like ourselves, to successfully have enough parents willing to become certified. For those of you who participated in last years swim meet in Officials positions you will registered and signed off as certified. They are asking however to review the positions online through Swim BC as some rules and protocols have changed. New volunteers however will be signed off for this years Swim Meet after they have completed the online small read and quiz. It honestly is not a large undertaking it just requires a commitment.
The Otters Swim Club is sincerely hoping we can host our meet in February as usual, but we cannot do it without your help. We will need the commitment of approx 20 people give or take as our Meet is two days long and not all parents can always volunteer for both days. If we are unable to get enough parents or people to certify themselves then sadly the Otters swim club will not be able to host our annual swim meet in February. We must give a deadline to collect all names of parents willing, committed and interested to volunteer. The Board can organize a group course session if parents are more interested in doing it that way. Once we have all of the volunteers names, we can then sort out the various positions required at that time. If you volunteered in last years swim meet and plan to as well this year then please forward your names so we can see if we will have enough volunteers all together. Please forward your names to Chris DeYoung by November 16th,2016.
