Coaches of BV OTTERS SWIM CLUB
We are very happy to have Head Coach Tom Best, ChPC who has been here since the 2012-13 season. Tom has years of experience which years of coaching and teaching experience at all levels. Many of his swimmers have gone on to university and international careers including two swimmers from last year, Bailey and Tanner Espersen.
Tom has a belief that all swimmers can be successful and is never afraid to try new information. In his time here, the swimmers have spent a great deal of time in developing their swimming skills without over-training.
Tom is certified at NCCP Level 3, is a chartered professional coach and has degrees in sport science and education. He works with kids from the Silver through to the Masters groups.
Ali Howard has stayed on to Coach part time again this season. It is great to have her on the team to assist Tom with the group. She will be doing the early mornings on Tuesday and Thursdays with the swimmers, and also is around some evenings to help out. Her competitive swimming experience is that of an elite level polo player. Several years ago, she put her swimming skills to work to bring attention to the dangers facing the Skeena River watershed - also known as the Sacred Headwaters. Ali navigated 380 miles of the river in August 2009 and not only brought the river's plight to the attention of the environmental community but also received an Activist Award. Thank you Ali!
